Englands National Nature Reserves
Photographs of Englands Nature Reserves
Working for English Nature and now natural England I have visited and photographed over 70 NNRs this is over a third of around 200 in England: From Devon’s famous Wistmans’s Wood and the wilds of Cornwalls Goss Moor to the amazing seabird colonies on the Farne Islands in Northumberland.
Over the last couple of months I have been scanning and uploading my back catalogue of photos taken over ten years. This collection is probably unique with images from many NNRs little visited by the public let alone other photographers.
Photos include flowers and birds as well as landscapes of all the Nature Reserves visited. Many of them include visitors or reserve staff at work.
As one of only a handful of professional photographers who have been permitted to stay overnight ( in fact several nights in my case ) The Farne Islands have to be my favourite National Nature Reserve. Watching the seabird covered cliffs of Inner Farne turn red with the sunset was a very memorable evening.
Another memorable visit was to Ebernoe National Nature Reserve in West Sussex where I spent the evening with Frank Greenaway catching and radio tracking bats. Frank has a very unconventional way of holding his torch!
Ainsdale Sand Dunes is one of several NNRs that I have visited on many occasions. Take a look at the frost covered sheep and the natterjack toads
All the photos are uploaded and using the search box on this web site will bring up a selection of the images available. There are also photos from most of the National Parks in England as well, not least because many of the NNRs are in National Parks.
All images are also available for sale as prints as well. March 9th 2010
